The Nelson lab is focused on the development of technologies that aid in the synthesis and discovery of bioactive molecules. We pursue this goal on two fronts. 1) We deploy advanced electron microscopy techniques (MicroED, 3DED, CryoEM) to understand molecular structure and function and 2) we develop synthetic methods that enable the chemical synthesis of complex molecules. The paths are often synergistic and rely on concepts in data science, physical organic chemistry, and automation.
